Lauren was tasked with creating an accessory using a leather alternative and began experimenting with fiber pulp combinations sourced from natural fiber studio scraps. Through a process of soaking, churning, and pressing, the fibers were formed into durable sheets, a process that took several weeks to complete.

To increase flexibility and softness, the sheets were coated in methyl cellulose using the traditional Japanese paper technique Momigami. This treatment transformed the rigid sheets into a more pliable material suitable for construction.

Once prepared, the sheets were laser cut and assembled with 9 mm brass rings, creating the structural body of the bag.

During her internship with WearLab Solutions, Lauren contributed to the design and development of adaptive harness systems for medically vulnerable individuals. WearLab is a startup supported by Iowa State University that focuses on human-centered product development for protective and assistive wearables.

Lauren played a key role in the design and construction of the Double Y Nexus Harness for individuals with limb loss. She assisted in developing design iterations through pattern making, prototyping, community fit testing, and quality assurance evaluation. The harness has been presented at medical conventions and is currently moving toward full-scale production.

Lauren also independently developed a harness system for a community member whose profession required carrying a heavy tool belt, which caused strain due to uneven weight distribution.

Using draping, pattern making, and prototyping, she created a design that redistributes weight across the upper body to improve comfort and mobility. This concept is currently being explored for future production.

IOWA STATE ORIENTATION SHIRT FALL 2025

58' Until Forever

Made in Adobe Photoshop

Lauren Goman was honored to collaborate with Iowa State Admissions to design the official t-shirt for approximately 700 incoming students arriving in Fall 2025. The design was selected for its broad appeal—not just to students, but also to alumni, staff, and community members.

Featuring iconic Iowa State landmarks, the shirt is titled “58’ Until Forever”—a tribute to the university’s founding year, 1858. More than just a first-day gift, it symbolizes the lasting connection Cyclones have with their campus. It’s a shirt meant to be worn well beyond college years, carrying the pride of Iowa State forward.

This shirt was for the Iowa State Admissions Office's Admitted Students Day 2025. These shirts will be worn by approximately 500 staff members to represent Iowa State as they welcome incoming students onto campus. This vintage-inspired tee, featuring the campus hub, Memorial Union, in the background, highlights school pride and tradition and will be the perfect way to show incoming students what it means to be a Cyclone.
